Included on this set are many of the greats who were instrumental in founding the modern day Jamaican industry, from Byron Lee to Ernest Ranglin while also featured are a number of their british based compatriots, whose recordings for labes such as Island, Blue Bea, Rio and Doctor Bird helped establish the sound of the caribbean in the UK. Among these musical pioneers, few were more influential than Owen Gray and Jackie Edwards who built up strong followings among both Soul and Ska fans. But these two giants of the British West Indian music scene were to by no means alone in their efforts this side of the Atlantic. Among other notable Jamaican ex-pats to play their trade in Britain in the early sixties were Top Grant, Tony Washington, Errol Dixon and Sonny Burke, all of whom made a significant impact as both recording artistes and live acts. And while the bulk of their fans initially comprised those of similar ancestry, their number was soon swelled by scores of white music lovers of a Moddish persuasion. Almost half of the tracks featured make their CD debut; many others make their first apparence on a Trojan collection, while "Philly Dog" (The Granville Williams Orchestra), "Sausage" (Roland Alphonso&The Beverly´s All Stars), "Yeh Yeh" (Rico&The Rudes), "Let Me Love You" (Rupie Edwards) and "Soul Finger"(Roland Alphonso&The Beverly´s All Stars) all see issue for the first time outside the Caribbean. 2010 trojan records.
